Developing a CFD Methodology
To develop the CFD simulation model, the team began by modelling the geometry of the current car using a 3d scanner and then ran mesh, domain and turbulence model studies. These results were then compared with the results obtained by students at the MIRA full size windtunnel
Wind Tunnel Testing
Real results were obtained using the MIRA full scale windtunnel and these were used to validate the CFD results to give confidence in future predictions made by the model
The Concept Design
Initially a parameter sweep was conducted and consultation of the rules and results from the initial runs resulted in the ‘concept design’. This section of the project was conducted by a group of 5 final year students and informed the final design.
The Final Design
A first year then built on previous work by developing the ideas within the regulations to produce the final design (not pictured due to confidentiality)
The team now intend to manufacture bucks and the bodywork which will hopefully debut sometime in 2017!
